Objectives: |
The children will listen to directions to make the fire hat. The students will listen to directions to make a fire truck. |
|
Anticipatory Set: |
Today we are going to talk about a special community helper, the
firefighter. Discuss what a
firefighter does. Read the story” I’m
a Firefighter” by Mary Packard. Then
explain to the children the activities that we will be doing at each center. |

Activities: |
The students will make a cut on the Semi-circle in the center of the large red construction paper starting
in the middle. (The child’s head goes in there.) Round off the edges of
the large sheet. Flip up the
centerpiece so it stands up in the front. (Like a firefighter helmet) Have
children write 911 on it. Fire truck: Have precut geometric shapes cut for children to make a
fire truck. The children will glue
the rectangle for the truck body, square for the cab of the truck and circles
for the wheels. They will glue the
pieces onto another piece of construction paper. Add yarn or string for the hose and use straws to make a
ladder. |

Materials Needed: |
12x18”red construction paper, 2 “ black circles for wheels, red 6”x
9”rectangle and 1 white 3”x3” square for cab of truck. |

Assessment: |
I will observe the students as they are working at the center. I will assist the children if they are
having any type of difficulties with the projects. |

Extensions: |
Make edible fire trucks: Cover
a graham cracker with red frosting.
Add two peanut butter cups for wheels. Add one piece of Chex cereal for a window. Add two whole pretzel sticks for a
ladder. Add a red gumdrop for a
light. Eat and enjoy. |
