Theater/ Dramatic Arts:  students will use theater as a means for creative self-expression and interpersonal communication.

Objectives:

The students will learn how to be firefighters.

Anticipatory Set:

 

 

 

                 

Today we are going to talk about a special community helper, the firefighter.  Discuss what a firefighter does.  Read the story Stop Drop and Roll by Lucia Raatma. Then explain to the children the activities that we will be doing at each center.

 

Activities:

The students will dress up in firefighter gear. The students will use toy fire trucks and pretend to put out fires.

Materials Needed:

Firefighter coats and boots, helmets, hoses, toy fire trucks, gloves, large box to make a fire truck, stuffed Dalmatian dog

Assessment:

I will observe the students while they are acting out the firefighter roles. I will watch to see if they are sharing and doing what they are supposed to.

Extensions:

Fire fighting-sidewalk chalk, squirt water bottles. Draw a pretend fire on the side of your house or garage with colored chalk.  Use water-filled squirt bottles to put the fire out.  Squirt and the fire will magically disappear.
